  • Service.

Standard servicing usually takes 15 working days or less to complete from the date of receiving your camera. We have over 40 years combined experience in electrical and mechanical engineering.

  • Repair.

We frequently manufacture bespoke parts where necessary. All steps taken toward a repair are contingent on a full discussion with the equipment owner; no go without your say so.

The quality of your images are contingent on the correct calibration of the equipment you shoot with.

You may have noticed that your images are not as sharp as they used to be, exposures seem to be a stop or more under/over, or perhaps the feel of your camera is just “off”. We work to bring your equipment back to as close to factory standards, with the option to modify and upgrade aspects of your equipment to benefit from modern techniques and technologies in the field of optics and textiles.

All work listed below is conducted in a filtered clean-room. Completed services/repairs are guaranteed for three months.

You can find a comprehensive price list for the available services listed below here.

CAMERA SERVICING/ REPAIR

CLA
’Clean, Lubricate, Adjust’; the most comprehensive service we offer whereby your camera is disassembled to its constituent parts, cleaned, lubricated, and reassembled. The camera is then calibrated to meet Leica tolerances with precision adjustments to ensure the optimal functioning of your equipment. Includes rangefinder and shutter speed calibration using industry-specific instruments. Diagnoses any additional faults and provides recommendations for repair. Once calibrated, your camera enters the “proof test” bay whereby all operations are tested prior to final sign-off.

Rangefinder Calibration ONLY
Realigns rangefinder to vertical and horizontal tolerances to ensure accurate focusing.

Shutter Speed Calibration ONLY
Calibrates shutter speeds to time to ensure accurate exposure of your negatives.

Shutter Curtain Repair
Replace the damaged shutter curtains in your camera with a fresh set of curtains cut from rubberised polyester or silk.

Multi-Coated Anti-Reflective Windows
Reduce rangefinder glare/flare and increase viewfinder contrast for easier focusing. Our ‘Multi-Coated Anti-Reflective Windows’ are made from borosilicate glass for high scratch resistance, keeping your windows clear for longer. Read more about our ‘Multi-Coated Anti-Reflective Windows’ here.

Reskin
Replace your camera skin with a laser-cut leatherette wrap. Wraps are available to replace the original Leica style or in a custom colour and pattern.

Engraving Retouching or Change
Retouch the engraving lettering and numbering on your camera or lens with a fresh infill of premium quality enamel or pastel-style paint.

Replacement Parts
During the course of an inspection, it may be determined that your camera requires a replacement part to fix the issue presented. The cost for this part depends on its availability and will be quoted prior to repair works commencing.

The quality of your images are also contingent on the condition of the glass you shoot with.

We can usually successfully clean internal optics that are affected by dust, haze, oil, and fungus. Typically this greatly improves the function of your lens.

We are also able to clean most lenses that are native or have been converted to M Mount, such as Zeiss M Mount and Voigtlander M Mount.

Haze Removal
Haze can be defined as the accumulation of micro-artefacts, such as dust, helicoid grease/barrel lubricants, that has migrated onto the lens element(s), giving the visual appearance of a scattered galaxy. Light haze is removed during a CLA and covered under this cost.

Fungus Removal
Fungus is very easily detectible when shining a bright light beneath the mount-end of a lens; it appears like a white root system on the glass and can vary in size across the area of the affected element(s). Fungus is usually caused in optics (we see this sometimes in viewfinders as well as lenses) if the equipment has been exposed to particularly damp or humid conditions for prolonged periods of time. Fungus can affect the quality of your images by reducing sharpness and contrast. Fungus is particularly damaging if left to spread, as it produces acid that can etch the coatings of your lens elements, which may be permanent.

In cases of light fungus, this can usually be cleaned during a CLA and incurs an additional £25.00 charge. In cases of moderate to severe fungus, the lens element coatings may be etched and there is little we can do to restore this at this time. We are looking into retrofitting our studio with a new polishing and coating system that will enable us re-coat lens optics in the future.

Each camera we receive is meticulously inspected and the owner receives an Inspection Report prior to being green-lit for reconditioning
and/or customisation. This ensures full transparency.

Process

In a CLA, your equipment is comprehensively disassembled, cleaned, lubricated, and adjusted. All elements of your camera or lens are calibrated using professional instruments designed purely for photographic testing.

Proof

Your equipment enters the last step—the “proof test bay”. We ensure your equipment meets critical tolerances to ensure that it is ready for years of use once returned to you. A Service Receipt is issued with a three month warranty.
